I/S Digital Literacies: Padlet
Description
Padlet is a freemium website-based communication and organization platform. The board creator can initiate an interaction board with a title, headings and background image and share it easily with a URL link. Users can follow the link and add text, videos, pictures, links, audio and maps to the board. As shown in the example above, it functions as a virtual bulletin board. It is possible to add content anonymously, or sign and have your name attached to your posts. The premium upgrade offers users the ability to run more than 3 Padlet boards at a time and increase storage space and archive options.

Examples and Rationale
Padlet was a common applet teacher candidates used this semester, likely due to its effectiveness and ease of use. It was most commonly used during lessons as a brainstorming tool. Students were often asked to post ideas or offer answers to open ended questions. While a student is adding content, they can also read and like the content provided by others. Used in this way Padlet makes an effective assessment tool for students and learners before, during or after a lesson (Ontario Ministry of Eduction 2010). Padlet was also used as a peer driven information forum. Students could post questions for others to answer regarding assignments and course work. It could also be a forum for students to anonymously ask questions and provide feedback to the teacher.

In the example above I used Padlet to organize the ideas I wanted to include on this page. This would be a great organizational tool for individual or groups of students. Providing tools for students to organize concepts is an important differential learning support for ELL and accommodated learners (Ontario Ministry of Education, 2008 and 2013). It can also be used to display classwork for parents and other members of the learning community to enjoy. It is a simple tool, but can be used in large number of ways to improve communication and share content. By SAMR Padlet represents and augmentation level technology that offers significant enhancement over other non-technology organizational tools (Puentedura, 2013).
